Local Theatres:

Fayette-Coweta Family Theatre, Inc. specializes in family friendly productions and educational theater- each season, four of their six productions have auditions open to the public.

The Henry Players are a community theater made up of local volunteers- as actors, stage crew, and orchestra. They hope to provide “quality entertainment at affordable costs.”

The Twilight Theatre is a small community theatre that performs on Peachtree City and Fayetteville stages. It produces three or four shows a season, and auditions are open to the public.

Save yourself a flight to New York, doll- at least one of these theatres is producing something you want to see.

Georgia Theatres:

Actor’s Express Theatre is considered “…by far the gutsiest theatre in the city.” (Southern Voice, 2005). It provides theater internships, provides a place for the less experienced Atlanta artists to gain experience, tours its productions regionally, and offers classes covering a diverse range of theatre topics.

The Alliance Theatre is one of the foremost theaters of the Southeast, and The Color Purple premiered on its stage. It produces plays and musicals on its three stages, including kid-friendly fare on one stage. It also offers a variety of educational programs, from summer camps to adult classes.

ART Station provides professional theatre and multitudes of educational opportunities to young actors, from classes to camps. They are more than just a theatre, however- they offer other programs and classes, from pottery to art exhibits.

Atlanta Professional Theatre is “committed to producing quality musical theatre in a professional manner and exposing the Metro Atlanta area to [their] experience and dedication to the theatrical arts.” Their auditions are open to professional actors.

Blackwell Playhouse provides family friendly fare and a chance to work in theater to the Marietta area. It offers summer camps and classes for children. Auditions are open to the public.

Button Theatre brings quality theatre to Gwinnett County. A newcomer to the Georgia theater scene, Button Theatre provides children’s classes and uses local talent. Their auditions are open to professional actors.

The Chattahoochee Community Players provides quality musical theatre and education to their community. Their auditions are open to the public.

Dad’s Garage produces original plays and musicals, along with triweekly improv shows. They offer acting classes and improv classes.

The Essential Theatre is a small theatre focused on “encouraging the creation of new dramatic literature and giving local actors, directors and designers the chance to work on exciting new plays that have not yet been produced in this area – all World Premieres and Regional Premieres.”

The Feint Theatre Company was organized in 2007 by a group of college students bound together by their shared experiences in theatre. The company produces a diverse selection of plays.

The Fox Theatre has survived from the early 1920s to today in various incarnations, including Shriner headquarters and movie theater. It still shows films. Currently, the Fox’s stage hosts comedians, musicians, and, of course, tours of Broadway productions.

Georgia Shakespeare is a Shakespeare theater that produces the Bard’s (and other) works every summer and fall. They offer classes to actors of all ages concerning the Bard’s work, and even a few contests for high school actors. Their auditions are open to professional actors.

The Historic Holly Theatre still works as a movie theater, but also provides plays, musicals, and family friendly fare to Dahlonega, Georgia. They offer camps and classes for children of all ages.

Horizon Theatre Company is a professional theater dedicated to bringing contemporary plays to Atlanta. It provides educational programs for young playwrights and senior citizens of all theatrical experience. Its auditions are open to professional actors.

The Kudzu Playhouse produces various works on its three stages- two stages for plays and musicals, and one stage for kid-friendly fare. They also offer acting classes for all ages, and a summer camp for kids. Their auditions are open to the public.

The New London Theatre is a volunteer theatre that produces both musicals and plays, and offers summer camps for young actors. Auditions are open to the public.

Onstage Atlanta is a semi-professional theatre group. While they rely on a permanent cast and crew, they also hold workshops from time to time for theatrical education.

The Rosewater Theatre is run by the husband and wife team of G. Scott Riley and Lisa Sherouse Riley. They are committed to bringing quality theatre to the Roswell area.

The Shakespeare Tavern specializes in the Bard’s works and other classic plays. Each summer, they have a highly selective program for teens, which concludes with a production.

Southside Theatre Guild is a Fairburn community theatre with over 35 years of experience. Auditions are open to the public.

Theatre in the Square produces a wide variety of plays, from contemporary gems to classics of black theater. It also offers acting classes for children, teens, and adults.

Theatrical Outfit is a small, professional theater in Atlanta that produces musicals and plays. Auditions are available to professional actors on a show by show basis.

The True Colors Theatre Company produces a wide variety of plays, in order to drive home the point of theatre as “moveable feast”.
